The Essential Guide To MyFitnessPal: Customising Your Goals

Updated: Dec 13, 2019

The first step to successfully tracking your macros via the MyFitnessPal app is setting up your specific macronutrient goals (if you don't know what macronutrients are, please download a free copy of our Calorie Guide). This tutorial will take you through the process, step by step.

Step 1

From the home page of MyFitnessPal, Select More from the bottom right-hand corner navigation bar. Five options down, select Goals.

Step 2

Fill in the appropriate answers for your Starting, Current and Goal Weight as well as Weekly Goal and Activity Level.

Underneath Nutrition Goals select Calorie, Carbs, Protein and Fat Goals

Step 3

Tap on the Calories section and enter in your custom calories. Select the tick to save. Underneath Calories are the headings Carbohydrates, Protein and Fat. To change these, select any of those headings. A wheel with percentages equalling 100 will appear.

Step 4

Make adjustments to this wheel to work towards getting the macro numbers to reflect what you want them to be. If the percentage is not equal to 100% it will highlight in red and you will be unable to save these macros. Adjust the wheel to equal 100% as closely to your macros as possible.

Note: The free version of MyFitnessPal does not allow you to add in specific grams of each macronutrient. Many people make adjustments to get MFP to be as close as possible to their goal macros and make a note of any discrepancies. In my opinion it's not worth paying the £7.99 a month for this premium feature, but it's up to you.

Step Five

Select the tick to save these macros. Your custom macronutrient goals are now saved to your MyFitnessPal profile and you're ready to start tracking.
