Do You Need Cardio To Lose Fat?

The short answer is no, but that wouldn't make for a very interesting article, so I'll elaborate a little further.

Cardio is not necessary to lose fat and with my clients I generally prefer to minimise the amount of cardio they're doing, especially at the start of a fat loss phase. Some people consider getting your daily steps in as cardio, I do not.

I prefer my clients create their caloric deficit through a combination of diet, NEAT (monitored through step count) and resistance training to some degree (to read about the importance of resistance training for fat loss just click the link).

The number one factor (there are others) to be concerned with when it comes to losing body fat is consuming fewer calories than you expend. Cardio can help you expend more calories, but is not absolutely necessary, however it is a tool you can use later on in a dieting phase once further caloric restriction is no longer feasible.
